Why TreeK?

At first glance, this extension is not essential for a website (unlike, say, Akeeba Backup). It is possible to continue using the Kunena forum without TreeK.

But if an administrator care about his Kunena forum users and want to make their experience more convenient, engaging, and enjoyable, then he should install TreeK
TreeK is like a piece of jewellery—something you can live without, yet it makes life brighter—while TreeK Pro allows your forum to sparkle like a diamond. TreeK transforms a Kunena thread from a mere exchange of opinions into a lively discussion!

Judge for yourself.
- In Kunena, a forum visitor sees a (dull) stream  of posts, listed one after another.
- A reply to a post is linked to the original ("parent") post—at best—by a quote, but more often simply by mentioning the author in the subject line.
- The subject line of any post is an exact duplicate of the topic title, meaning it conveys no substantive information about the content of the reply.
- And if someone happens to write an own subject line for their post, it changes the title of the entire topic (a disaster!).
TreeK has rectified all these and some other shortcomings, and has also introduced some useful new features.

TreeK presents a topic on the Kunena forum in the form of a tree structure. The content of the topic becomes easily understandable, as it shows in the message tree who replied to whom and how.

The settings of the tree window allow the user to see the content of a single post or teasers of all posts in the topic at once, choose a convenient tree view, receive a notice when a new post is added to the topic etc., and work with the discussion without leaving the tree window.

TreeK Pro also includes configurable tools for improving the Kunena interface.

All actions for creating topics, adding posts, and editing posts are carried out in the usual way in Kunena.

TreeK: Tree-Shell for Kunena Forum

This site contains detailed guides on how to work with the Kunena-based forum topic tree, provided by the TreeK add-on (or, more precisely, TreeK Pro). Depending on your selection from the site menu, the content may be a slideshow, a forum topic or an article. All these materials are presented in a consistent format and use screenshots, short videos and captions for the images or videos. The developer strongly recommends reading these explanatory notes; doing so will not only teach you how to use the post tree but also save you a significant amount of time when working with it.

The developer recommends watching the slideshow and reading the explanatory notes.
However, you can start using TreeK at any time because:

  • all TreeK buttons and symbols in the tree window are natural, mostly self-explanatory, and supplied with explanatory tooltips;
  • all actions in the window are independent of one another;
  • any action can easily be undone by selecting the previous setting value;
  • nothing can be damaged, because all real events in the topic take place in Kunena.

So you can start working with the topic posts tree without concern. Still, once again, getting familiar with the slideshow will help you avoid missing useful TreeK details and features.

All TreeK options can be tried in the specially created small topic Example of tree on this site’s forum.

In addition, a special forum category Sandbox for testing TreeK is provided for testing TreeK. Registered users of this site can create their own topics there and practice with them.
Of course, other registered users can participate in these topics, just as they would on real Kunena forums, and in this way also get familiar with TreeK.

The slideshow is designed to be viewed on a computer screen or on a tablet. It does not work on smartphones.

For those who are unable to use a large screen, a special ‘static’ Treek. Brief illustrated description of all features theme has been created on this website, which displays the same slides and text as the slideshow.

Moreover, using my `com_kunenatopic2article` component, an article of the same name, containing comprehensive information about Treek, was automatically generated from the forum topic "Treek: Brief illustrated description of all features." It can be accessed via the site menu.

Thus, the site offers three ways to learn about Treek, all providing the same amount of information: a slideshow, a forum topic, and an article. The choice of how to explore Treek depends on the reader's preference. The site administrator considers reading the article to be the most relaxed approach.
